{"id":10528,"date":"2018-11-20T15:50:55","date_gmt":"2018-11-20T20:50:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandyblogs.com\/techlink\/?p=10528"},"modified":"2019-01-23T13:04:53","modified_gmt":"2019-01-23T18:04:53","slug":"boom-or-moan-sounds-from-active-noise-cancelation-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/?p=10528","title":{"rendered":"Boom or Moan Sounds from Active Noise Cancelation System"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Active Noise Cancelation (ANC) module filtering function may not be operating properly or the ANC microphone may not be seated correctly in the headliner on some 2016-2018 Malibu models. As a result, a loud boom, moan or phasing sound may be heard from the infotainment system either at a low speed\/low RPM or at a high speed\/high RPM.<\/p>\n<p>If the boom, moan or phasing sound is noticed, check the ANC microphone for the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Microphone resistance is 105k to 110k ohms<\/li>\n<li>Microphone is mounted flush to the headliner with no gaps. The microphone shown below is not flush with the headliner. (Fig. 3)<\/li>\n<li>Microphone is centered in the opening in the headliner (Fig. 4)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11054\" src=\"https:\/\/techlink.mynetworkcontent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/F03-anc-mic-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"389\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/F03-anc-mic-2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/F03-anc-mic-2-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/F03-anc-mic-2-85x55.jpg 85w, https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/F03-anc-mic-2-200x130.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>Fig. 3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10514\" src=\"https:\/\/sandyblogs.com\/techlink\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/F04-anc-mic-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"447\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/F04-anc-mic-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/F04-anc-mic-1-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><strong>Fig. 4<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After correcting the positioning of the ANC microphone, if needed, drive the vehicle at a low speed\/low RPM \u2014 approximately 15\u201320 mph (24-32 km\/h) or 1,100\u20131,200 RPM \u2014 and at a high speed\/high RPM \u2014 approximately 60-70 mph (97\u2013113 km\/h) or 1,900\u20132,000 RPM \u2014 to verify if the sound is still present.<\/p>\n<p>If the boom\/moan sound is confirmed at a high speed\/high RPM, replace the ANC module.<\/p>\n<p>If the boom\/moan sound is confirmed at a low speed\/low RPM, disconnect the ANC module X3 connector. Drive the vehicle again at a low speed\/low RPM.
