These conditions may be caused by misalignment of the coupler between the Transmission Range Control Module (TRCM) and the transmission. The TRCM (Fig. 14) will need to be re-centered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11750\" src=\"https:\/\/techlink.mynetworkcontent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F14-module-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"479\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F14-module-3.jpg 740w, https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F14-module-3-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F14-module-3-85x55.jpg 85w, https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F14-module-3-200x130.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><b>Fig. 14<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The TRCM includes:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Coupler to coupler, or lever to rod linkage interface with the transmission manual shaft.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Backup Park Lock function (Default to Park)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Before re-centering the module, check the transmission fluid level. If the fluid is dark and has an overheated odor, any internal wear issues with the automatic transmission should be addressed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Next, with the transmission in Park and the parking brake applied, perform the Backup Park Lock Actuator Disarming procedure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The Backup Park Lock function is an electrically isolated smart actuator inside the TRCM that is activated when the transmission does not achieve Park. When the Backup Park Lock function is activated, the gear is disarmed, which rotates the torsional spring forcing the transmission manual shaft to the Park position. Disarm the Backup Park Lock Actuator using a scan tool when the rod linkage is adjusted (if equipped) or if the TRCM is being removed then reinstalled.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">On XT5 models (Fig. 15), detach the Engine Control Module (ECM) from the brake assembly and move the ECM aside. It\u2019s not necessary to disconnect the electrical connectors. Remove the ECM from the bracket. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11751\" src=\"https:\/\/techlink.mynetworkcontent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F15-module-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"481\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F15-module-1.jpg 740w, https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F15-module-1-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F15-module-1-85x55.jpg 85w, https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F15-module-1-200x130.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><b>Fig. 15<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">On LaCrosse models (Fig. 16), remove the air cleaner housing assembly. Also remove the bolt that secures the intake air duct to the core support and then remove the air cleaner bracket.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11752\" src=\"https:\/\/techlink.mynetworkcontent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F16-module-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"481\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F16-module-2.jpg 740w, https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F16-module-2-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F16-module-2-85x55.jpg 85w, https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F16-module-2-200x130.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><b>Fig. 16<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">With access to the TRCM, loosen (approximately 1\/4 inch) the automatic transmission range selector actuator hardware module bolts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Rotate the automatic transmission range selector actuator hardware module clockwise to the right lock position (Fig. 17, Blue line). Next, rotate the module counterclockwise to the left lock positon (Fig. 17, Green line). Finally, rotate the module clockwise until it is centered between both full lock positions (Fig. 17, Red line).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><b>TIP:<\/b> The turning radius of the module will be very slight when centering. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11753\" src=\"https:\/\/techlink.mynetworkcontent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F17-module-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F17-module-4.jpg 740w, https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F17-module-4-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F17-module-4-85x55.jpg 85w, https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/F17-module-4-200x130.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><b>Fig. 17<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Hold the module in place and tighten the hardware module bolts to prevent the actuator from moving from the center position. Tighten the bolts to specification.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">With the module re-centered, perform the TRCM learn procedure (not for new modules). If the test fails, re-adjust the module and retest.
