Backing out of the garage may bring some vehicles equipped with Reverse Automatic Braking to a quick stop. The design sensitivity of the rear virtual bumper on 2023-2024 LYRIQ; 2024 XT4, Blazer EV, Equinox EV, Silverado EV; 2024-2025 Acadia, Traverse; 2025 Enclave and other models may automatically brake the vehicle unexpectedly when an object is detected nearby, such as a mailbox when backing out of a driveway or the side of a garage door opening. This is normal operation for the system. (Fig. 1)<\/p>\n

The braking features of the Reverse Automatic Braking system (Sensor – Collision Avoidance & Mitigation, Vehicle Reverse Movement, RPO UVZ) can be set up in the Settings menu on the vehicle\u2019s infotainment screen. Go to Settings > Vehicle > Collision\/Detection Systems for different settings for braking, providing an audible alert, or both. (Fig. 2)<\/p>\n

Refer to the vehicle owner\u2019s manual for additional information about the Reverse Automatic Braking feature.<\/p>\n

The owner\u2019s manual states:<\/p>\n

There may be instances where unexpected or undesired automatic braking occurs. If this happens, either press the brake pedal or firmly press the accelerator pedal to release the brakes from the RAB system. Before releasing the brakes, check the RVC and check the area around the vehicle to make sure it is safe to proceed.<\/em><\/p>\n
