If this occurs, pulling the manual release cable near the steering column also may not release the hood. (Fig. 7)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19844\" src=\"https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/F07-Hood-release-6.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"480\" \/><strong>Fig. 7<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The hood release not fully unlatching may be caused by the 12V battery being too weak to start the engine, yet it may still be strong enough to electrically release the front compartment hood when commanded. The hood may release from the primary release latch, but it is possible that it may become stuck on the secondary latch. The secondary latch release requires more power than what may be available from the vehicle\u2019s 12V battery in that moment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The incomplete functionality of the hood release is a common condition when trying to access the front compartment to charge a weak 12V battery. In order to open the front compartment, first press down on the hood manually to close it completely. (Fig. 8) Next, firmly pull the manual release cable \u2014 located at the base of the steering column \u2014 twice to open the front compartment hood.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19845\" src=\"https:\/\/gm-techlink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/F08-Hood-release-7.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"480\" \/><strong>Fig. 8<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>TIP: <\/strong>For the manual release cable to work properly, the front compartment hood must be fully closed on the primary latch. The manual release cable (Fig. 9) will require a fair amount of effort to pull.
