New GM Tools and Equipment Program Announced

A new GM Tools and Equipment program has recently been announced by GM that aims to quickly deliver the essential tools dealerships need while providing a world-class customer service experience. The new program kicks off with a new website, supported by Snap-on, along with an enhanced GM Tool and Equipment Program Customer Service Center that will serve as a “one stop shop” for tool information and ordering.

New Website

The new website — gmglobaltools.com — is now accessible. Starting April 1, 2024, all orders are being fulfilled by Snap-on. (Fig. 1)

All GM dealerships (U.S. and Canada) are being shipped a new program packet with website credentials to log in to the website and access dealership pricing and promotions. Dealerships with GM Dealer Equipment website credentials will be able to continue using those credentials on the new site.

The new website will offer the latest information and ordering capabilities for both Special Tools and Dealer Equipment, with separate navigation trees for each program.

Current tool orders not fulfilled by Bosch by April 1, 2024, will automatically be transferred to Snap-on to be fulfilled. However, orders that were place before September 1, 2023, will be canceled and must be re-ordered. A list of tools that have been ordered can be provided to dealerships by contacting the GM Tool and Equipment Program Customer Service Center.

Tool Numbers

The 5 digit “root numbers” for tools will not be changing. However, the prefixes will change. EL-XXXXX, EN-XXXXX, CH-XXXXX, etc. will be replaced with GM-XXXXX in the new program. The change to the prefixes is designed to ensure consistency across the program. The “root numbers” will be searchable within the Special Tools website, making it easy to find the right tools needed for repairs.

Loan Tool Program

Snap-on will facilitate the GM Loan Tool Program (LTP) moving forward. During the transition, Bosch will be unable to fulfill the loaner tool requests as inventory is being shipped to Snap-on. After April 1, 2024, all tools loaned to dealerships should be returned to Snap-on.

Tool Organization

The GM ToolNet special service tools inventory management application will no longer be supported after April 1, 2024. Tool inventories will need by the switched over to Snap-on’s tool inventory program.

Look for more information about the new GM Tools and Equipment program coming soon, including the enhanced tool ordering process and tool fulfillment, tool inventory management and special website promotions.

  1. Thank you for this article that doesn’t help a technician out in anyway. At some point can we hire people capable of making this a smooth transition. Hopefully someone can realize why no one is wanting to come into this field anymore.

  2. As mentioned in the recent GlobalConnect messsage, when searching for special tools, keep in mind that all items now have a GM- prefix versus the previous J-, EN-, or DT- prefix. Also, be sure to log in to view all available dealership content.

Can’t find the special tools in the new system, I guess we’ll use bubble gum and a paperclip like Magyver

HATS OFF TO THE SHREWD DECISION MAKER THAT TOOK DOWN TOOLNET BEFORE HAVING A REPLACEMENT UP AND RUNNING. GREAT JOB. KEEP MAKING SMART DECISONS.

  5. Dealerships that would like an extract of what they had loaded into ToolNet can contact the Snap-on help desk at GMToolsandEquipment@snapon.com.

  6. How do we find tools in our inventory now?

  7. Mike Allen says:

I have tried to order 6 different tools under the new site, Each one says “out of stock” and no ETA is given for the tools arrival. I understand this is a huge undertaking going from one facility to another. Is THIS the reason, or are they just waiting to get a certain number of orders for a specific tool before they act? In any case it can’t be worse than it was near the end with no stock available. Hoping for improvements in stock as well as down time for dealers who NEED the tool when we order them.

  8. Dean Snyder says:

Where do we send the DCBS EL52800 and get a full refund ?

  9. The tool inventory feature for essential tools will be restored in May. Dealerships that would like an extract of what they had loaded into ToolNet can contact the Snap-on help desk at GMToolsandEquipment@snapon.com.

  10. The new GM Global Tools website is currently being updated. The software update functionality is now available under the Additional Resources tab.
