Diagnostic Tips for Audio and Display Screen Concerns on IOK Radios

There may be several display screen concerns and other conditions on the infotainment system (RPO IOK) of some 2022-2025 Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Sierra, Yukon, HUMMER EV; 2024-2025 Corvette, Silverado HD and Sierra HD models. (Fig. 1) These conditions may include no audio; a black, frozen or glitching display screen; and a “Return to Dealer” or “Demo Mode” message on the screen.

If these conditions are present, there may be a software, connection or hardware issue.

More information about these concerns can be found in #PIC6602. Here’s a look at some of the details.

Radio Reset

The radio may need to be reset if the screen is frozen, blank or black. Refer to #PIC6540 for the reset procedure, which uses the steering wheel controls. It also may be necessary to cycle the fuse for the radio module or the 12V battery.

If normal operation of the screen returns after the reset, continue diagnostics as outlined in #PIC6602. If the screen display does not return, follow normal diagnostics in the appropriate Service Information.

Display Message

A message on the screen will require using SPS to reprogram the A11 radio. Refer to #PIT6209 for complete details. (Fig. 2)

Verify Software

Several radio software updates have been released for vehicles equipped with infotainment system RPO IOK. If the radio does not have the latest software, update the system, clear all codes and recheck radio operation.

Refer to the following bulletins for more information about the software updates:

  • Bulletin #24-NA-261 – 2022-2024 Full-Size Trucks and SUVs
  • Bulletin #24-NA-276 – 2025 Full-Size Trucks
  • Bulletin #24-NA-168 – 2022-2024 HUMMER EV
  • Bulletin #25-NA-098 – 2024-2025 Corvette and 2025 HUMMER EV

Check Connections

If the radio conditions are still present after all necessary software updates have been made, disconnect, inspect and reconnect all related electrical connections. Make any wiring and connector repairs as needed.

Radio Replacement

Once diagnostics are completed and it has been determined that a new radio is needed, start a Dealer Case Management (DCM) case with PQC to begin the authorization process. The radio is currently restricted and PQC will require the results of all diagnostic tests and software updates before authorization will be provided.

For conditions where the display screen is operational, record the radio build version by going to Settings > About on the radio screen.

Audio Concerns

Some infotainment systems also may have a condition where there isn’t any audio. Refer to #PIT6367 and #PIT6101Q for these concerns.
