Front Heated Seat Malfunction After Collision Repairs

Heated seat operation may be inhibited on GM models equipped with the Global A electrical architecture if the vehicle was in a collision. If the front heated seats (Fig. 13) are not operating properly after repairs have been completed, the malfunction may be due to the crash data in the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM).

To restore operation of the heated seats, it may be necessary to reset the crash data in the SDM.

Service Information was recently updated to include the following diagnostic aid for Front Heated Seat Malfunction:

Diagnostic Aids

  • Heated seat operation may be inhibited if the vehicle was in a collision. To restore operation of the heated seats, it may be necessary to reset crash data in the supplemental restraint module. This is done by performing the reset disable request after crash event detected under configuration/reset functions in GDS 2.

Reset the SDM

To reset the SDM, select the Reset Disable Request function under the Configuration/Reset Functions in GDS 2. The path in GDS 2 is Module Diagnostics > K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (Fig. 14) > Configuration/Reset Functions > Reset High Voltage Disable Request After Crash Event Detected. (Fig. 15)
