Some 2019-2025 Silverado, Sierra; 2021-2025 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Escalade models may have a keyless entry condition (Fig. 1) with a Service Keyless Entry message displayed on the Driver Information Center. No DTCs will be set.
Fig. 1
If these conditions are found, there may be an issue with one of the outside door handle switch inputs. Check that the parameters of the exterior door handle switches change between Active and Inactive while operating the respective exterior door handle/rear closure touchpad in GDS 2.
If the parameter is not changing for a particular door handle switch, inspect the door handle switch and wiring/connections between the door handle switch and the module.
TIP: There have been several cases seen where aftermarket exterior door handle covers have been installed and interfere with the proper operation of the door handle switch. The aftermarket covers should be removed.
Keyless Entry System Malfunction
For more details on proper diagnosis, refer to Keyless Entry System Malfunction in the appropriate Service Information.
The diagnostic procedures should be followed for any system malfunction, including those that do not have a DTC present. All the functions of the active and passive keyless entry system, along with the tire pressure monitoring system, are tied together using radio frequency to communicate.
As a vehicle with locked doors is approached with a keyless entry transmitter (remote key fob) and the exterior door handle/rear closure touchpad is pressed, the keyless entry antenna broadcasts a challenge to the remote key in an approximate one-meter range. If the response from the transmitter via radio frequency (RF) is valid, the locked door will be passively unlocked/unlatched and allow the door to be opened. A low transmitter battery or RF interference from aftermarket or nearby devices may cause a system malfunction.
To determine the best starting point for diagnosis, first determine whether vehicle features are functioning correctly or not. Perform a quick check on the vehicle to see if there is a fault in each feature. If any one part of the feature is faulty, then the feature has a failed status.
TIP: The passive entry system unlocking function can be disabled through the key fob or the Settings menu on the infotainment screen. (Fig. 2) If the feature is disabled, the exterior lights will flash quickly 4 times when the passive entry door button is pressed.
