2024 Essential Tool Forecast

The estimated 2024 GM Essential Tool forecast is now available for all U.S. dealerships. The forecast includes all expected Essential Special Service Tools along with shipment timing for the 2024 calendar year.

Actual tool shipments will vary depending on each dealership’s existing Essential Tool inventory and franchise combination. Some tools may be added or canceled as necessary throughout the year.

TIP: Tools showing less than “100.00%” in Estimated % of Dealers column will ship only to applicable divisional dealerships that do not yet have the tool in inventory. Bosch reviews individual dealership Parts Account histories prior to each release; duplicate tools will not ship.

New tools associated with a specific vehicle launch will generally ship 2–4 weeks prior to the expected arrival of vehicles at the dealership. All other shipping dates are dependent on tool availability and the tool development process.

  1. The new GM Global Tools website is currently being updated. The software update functionality is now available under the Additional Resources tab. For dealerships using ToolNet for essential tool inventories, it will be restored in May.

  2. As a G.M tech of over 20 years. It seems G.M has gotten away from quality. We see it in our products. Service technicians are under paied, and customers are having to suffer the woes of product failure. From TLC never working flawlessly ( nothing close to TIS 2 web), to removing our ability to find essential tools in our own tool room, with the removal of toolnet, and the software update option. i Need to update oue EL-52545 tool. The G.M software update option is gone?? Who is making these decisions? For a flat rate tech time is money, an there is a lot of wasted time due to constant issues with diagnostic equipment, essential tools, and software updates not available. Techs are required to take continuing courses, and training to keep up with the ever changing technology without any help, or compensation from G.M. yet UAW workers (unskilled) are getting paid up to sixty five dollars an hour??!! We fix engineering mistakes daily for pennys. I can’t be the only one who thinks this way? There is already a technician shortage, and it will continue to get worse as long as these concerns fall on deaf ears.

  3. It would be nice if we could get the tools, before the need for them arises.
