There may be a vibration felt in the shift lever assembly or a rattle or tapping sound heard near the instrument panel or center console on some 2020-2023 Encore GX and 2021-2023 Trailblazer models. (Fig. 15) The vibration or rattle sound may be caused by possible shifter cable contact or a cable routing concern.

Once the noise has been confirmed, inspect the shifter cable for possible contact with surrounding components. If contact is found, insulate the crimped metal sleeve on the shifter cable. (Fig. 16)

Do not secure the shifter cable tightly to the body with a zip tie or any other method. Due to engine movement, the cable must be allowed to move freely.
TIP: Insulate the crimped metal sleeve only. Do not add foam tape to the large round dampening weight on the cable as this could make the condition more noticeable.
