Power Hood Closure Conditions

The power hood (RPO AHV) (Fig. 1) on some 2022-2025 HUMMER; 2024-2026 Silverado EV, Sierra EV; and 2025-2026 ESCALADE IQ models may not close or cinch shut properly. There may be a Hood Open message displayed on the Driver Information Center even though the hood is in the primary or closed position.

Power Hood Restrictions

If the hood is restricted from going into the primary (or fully latched) position during the hood cinching process, the hood latch will initiate the cinching action, but it will remain in the secondary latch position.

Possible causes of this condition include:

  • Pulling up on the hood during the cinch process
  • Hood closure obstruction, such as oversized cargo or hood seal obstruction
  • Hood latch misadjusted to the hood and/or striker
  • Hood misadjusted to the body
  • Over-engagement of the adjustable rubber bumpers
  • Powertrain Compartment Control Module needs to be reset
  • Powertrain Compartment Control Module software is not up to date

There are several steps that can be taken to address these conditions. It also may be necessary to perform a system reset.

Begin diagnosis by verifying the vehicle is not in Transport Mode. Refer to Bulletin #23-Na-064 for more information.

Also check that the Power Hood Opening in the Settings menu on the infotainment screen is set to Maximum. The power hood feature is disable if the Off setting is selected.

Next, verify the following:

  • No obstructions preventing hood closure.
  • Proper engagement of the bumper stops.
  • Proper hood alignment. Refer to Hood Adjustment in the appropriate Service Information.
  • The latch is centered/aligned to the striker. Refer to Hood Primary and Secondary Latch Replacement in the appropriate Service Information.

If the power hood is not closing properly once these items have been verified, perform a system reset.

System Reset

To reset the system, open the power hood. Use the manual release cable inside the vehicle and manually open the hood if the power function will not operate.

Remove the right-side sight shield and fuse block cover. remove the Powertrain Compartment Control Module fuse (F54UA) (Fig. 2) for 2 minutes and then reinstall the fuse. Reinstall the fuse block cover and sight shield and verify the hood cinching functionality using the key fob, interior release switch or front fascia switch.

  1. The power hood can be closed using the key fob by pressing the button twice and holding the second press until the hood closes. If users are pressing the button twice but not holding the button, it may appear that the power hood is not working properly. The instrument panel button requires a single press and hold action to close the hood. In the Vehicle Settings, be sure the Power Hood Opening setting is not set to Off. In the Off position, the only way to open the power hood is using the button on the front fascia of the vehicle.

  2. Lets not forget the new issue where the hood won’t close with the fob, but works fine otherwise. This power hood is a real treat.
