Microsoft has announced it will discontinue free support of the Windows 10 operating system (OS) on October 14, 2025.
The Techline Customer Support Center (TCSC) will continue to support personal computers (PCs) running Windows 10 until December 31, 2025. (Fig. 9) However, any issues encountered with Windows 10 PCs after October 14, 2025, may not be supported if they are suspected to be caused by the Windows 10 operating system.
Beginning January 1, 2026, GM will only support PCs using the Windows 11 Professional 64bit operating system.

New Computer Specifications
GM recommends replacing Techline PCs running Windows 10 in dealership service departments with computers that use the Windows 11 operating system before Microsoft support ends. While upgrading a Windows 10 PC to Windows 11 is possible, installing a new operating system on an older PC can result in poor performance, installation issues and ongoing problems.
The Dealership Infrastructure & Security Guidelines (DISG) provide the latest PC specifications recommended for computers used in the service department. The guidelines can be accessed from Global Connect using the Dealer Information Technologies app in the Apps section. Select the Dealer Infrastructure & Security Guidelines link to view the guidelines. (Fig. 10)

In Canada, the latest DISG can be found in the Dealer Security and Information Technology App on GM Global Connect.
The Desktop, Laptop and Tablet computers matrix includes Operating Minimum (minimum acceptable capability/components) and Operating Recommended (capability/components that will deliver the best performance and security while maximizing the lifecycle of the investment) specifications.
The gmglobaltools.com website offers several laptop PCs meeting all GM specifications. (Fig. 11) The laptops also are pre-loaded with Techline Connect diagnostic software to help save time and effort at the dealership.
